PAMELA'S STORY

Borderline Personality Disorder is both a complex and confusing illness for sufferers and those who care about them. However, given the right treatment and support, there is hope for change and an improved quality of life.

The Borderline Personality Disorder Resource Center (BPDRC) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College is here to help. It has been founded to help individuals impacted by the disorder find the most current and accurate information on BPD, and sources of available treatment.

The symptoms of BPD typically occur in a variety of combinations, and individuals with the disorder have many, if not all of the following traits:

How You Can Help:

The Borderline Personality Disorder Resource Center greatly appreciates contributions to help continue its mission. For more information, please click here.

  • fears of abandonment
  • extreme mood swings
  • difficulty in relationships
  • unstable self-image
  • difficulty managing emotions
  • impulsive behavior
  • self-injuring acts
  • suicidal ideation
  • transient psychotic episodes

Furthermore, BPD rarely stands alone and commonly occurs simultaneously with other disorders, such as eating disorders, substance abuse, major depression and bipolar disorder, which often prevents an accurate diagnosis.

The Center's staff, led by Dr. Otto F. Kernberg, Director of the Personality Disorders Institute at NYPH makes every effort to help individuals with BPD locate the best available paths to recovery.

Documentary-Style Film on BPD is Here!

The BPD Resource Center, along with an award-winning production company, has created a ground-breaking documentary-style film on Borderline Personality Disorder. The 48-minute long film features compelling interviews with individuals recovering from the disorder and their family members. Expert testimony is given by renown experts in the field such as Dr. Otto Kernberg, Dr. Marsha Linehan, Dr. Perry Hoffman, Dr. John Gunderson and Dr. Wayne Fenton. A DVD of the film is available at a cost of $20 per copy. For information on ordering and payment, please click here.
